When paying more makes sense

Focusing solely on the numbers on a price tag when you are trying to reduce spending can backfire. This method doesn’t account for the quality of the product or the manufacturer’s willingness to back it up if there is an issue. I am not denying that there are countless low-cost, high-quality products on the market. But, as they say:

  1. You never regret buying quality
  2. You get what you pay for

How can something save you money when the comparable item is cheaper? It’s simple. Some products are well built and outlast the competition when subjected to standard use. Others are so well built that they are backed by unlimited or unconditional guarantees. This means that if you spend the extra money to purchase these products once, you will never need to purchase them again.

For example, you can splurge and spend $10-$25 for a single pair of Darn Tough socks. It sounds a little steep, but that one pair could last you the rest of your life. That’s right, it doesn’t matter if they are dirty, smelly, holey, or just plain old, you can drop these socks in the mail with a claim form and receive a brand new pair*. Over your lifetime, this can save hundreds of dollars that can be allocated to your other goals.

Darn Tough is not the only company with an all encompassing guarantee. Some of my favorites include: Osprey packs and bags, Tilley Endurables, and Manduka yoga mats. So, doing your research regarding price, quality, and company support before a purchase can pay off.

Happy shopping (within your means)!

*The Darn Tough the unconditional guarantee may not be available in its full capacity outside of the US and Canada. Check with Darn Tough for details. Also, I do not have an affiliate relationship with Darn Tough. I have used the warranty and love the Darn Tough socks I own.
